ALTON STERLING

The killing of Alton Sterling was one of many police shootings in 2016 that took the life of an innocent man and gripped the lives of all who watched the videos of the gruesome act. This hit me very close to home, both literally and figuratively. It happened in my neighborhood, at a place I frequented quite often and it made me feel as if I wasn't safe in my own home. I was able to be on the front lines throughout the aftermath of the shooting. From the very first public interview with his aunt, Sandra Sterling, to the day we laid him to rest. It has now been nearly 6 months, and there has been absolutely no update in the case. No closure has been made to his family, and a city is still left without answers.
